Overall Purpose of Job -- A Greenpeace Campaigner will design, develop and implement successful campaigns to help protect the environment, in line with national, regional and global campaign strategies. The aim is to inspire people and raise public awareness of environmental issues with audiences in Japan and around the world.

Scope: Participate in the planning of campaign projects, as a member of the Greenpeace Japan team, and the global campaign team. Participate in and contribute to proposals and assessments of the annual Campaign progamme and collaborate with colleagues to develop new and exciting ways to involve people in protecting the environment. Implement the agreed strategies in a professional manner in order to achieve the campaign objectives.
Job content
Carry out research to identify campaign opportunities, aimed at changing public opinion, government policy, or business practices

Conduct effective campaigns by (for example): developing materials, meeting with decision-makers, making presentations to the public and press, and organizing events

Work collaboratively with colleagues, both in Japan and internationally, to catalyse change on a domestic and global scale

Assess how the external world responds to our work, and adjust plans to take advantage of new opportunities

Participate and contribute to assessments and evaluations of our work

Effectively use a range of tools (budget sheets, calendars, and project management software) to carry out the work

Oversee or supervise external consultants, volunteers or other staff
Required qualifications
Fluency in both written and spoken Japanese and English

Knowledge and/or experience in (a mix of the following):

-Understanding of environmental issues
-Running national or international campaigns
-Communicating effectively: strong writer, comfortable using social media channels
-Conducting research into scientific or social issues (desk-based and field-based)
-Budget management, and project management
-Persuading politicians or corporate executives to adopt pro-environment positions
-Understanding of the role of activism in achieving change
-Public speaking, ability to act as a spokesperson

Successful candidates will be comfortable working as part of a team, manage stressful situations with ease, and enjoy engaging in healthy debates.
Work location
- Based at the Greenpeace Japan office in Tokyo
- Travel required on semi-regular basis, at least once per year to an overseas location
- Highly flexible towards working hours
